Chapter 3 - A Monstrous Forest

I proudly present Chapter 3 of the Wormworld Saga Digital Graphic Novel!

Go read it at wormworldsaga.com!

I was truelly looking forward to this day. I assume that since the release of Chapter 1 a lot of people were wondering what the Wormworld Saga is all about. Finally we will now follow Jonas on his first steps beyond the magic canvas and find out more about this mysterious place and its inhabitants.

Chapter 3 was a huge challenge for me as I wanted the first impression of the Wormworld to be a lasting one. This chapter is the longest chapter so far and it is full of elaborate full scale backgrounds. Including prelim, concept art and layout, I worked over 400 hours on Chapter 3. I think that it shows and I hope that everyone will enjoy the ride.

I was pressing hard to meet the scheduled release date at the end of April. While this worked out for the release on the website, users of the Wormworld Saga App will have to wait a few days until I have finished the production of the special content which will be available alongside the Collector's Edition of Chapter 3 inside the app. There's lots of concept artwork that I'm going to share and of course there will be author commentary   available again.

Ok, I'd say go and have a good time with Chapter 3! If you like it please help to spread the word and tell your friends about it.

  6. When I was waiting in anticipation for this next chapter, I felt somehow like we're witnessing a historical moment in comic history! It really is that amazing ! And then the chapter itself ! The best thing about Wormworld is that it is like no other world ! It's absolutely unique, magical and mysterious in it's own way! I just love it so much !!! And Raya is amazing character! Ok, as always, I wish the best of luck ! :-)) There's really not much more to say ... this is going to be huge.

    1. Try to manually refresh your browser (press F5). Maybe it's showing an old graphic from the cache.

  9. Hi Daniel,

    Franzi

  10. It is beautiful! I love it :D I love the scene with the sunshine the most, although the one with the draconi with Jonas in front of it is also lovely. The detail you put in your work is amazing! Can't wait for the next chapter ;)

  14. Thanks a lot for all your wonderful and encouraging comments! I'm really happy to see that Chapter 3 is received so well. The story becomes more specific now and it might turn into directions that some did not anticipate. I was really curious to find out what the reactions to this would be and I'm glad that so far there's no disappointment in your comments.

  15. Absolutely terrific! Most wonderful graphics I have ever seen!

The only "negative" apsect - if I may say so - is the storytelling. In my opinion using the past tense (in the blue bubbles) doesn't fit to the comic style and lowers the tension about what is going on for me. It destroys a bit the feeling of being in the middle of the action. I am not sure if I am expressing this adequately, but I hope you know what I wanted to say, somehow. ;-)

Nevertheless I am looking forward to the next chapter and wish you all the best!

    1. Even if i'm really fascinated by your comic, I think I felt a bit the same. Sometimes the storytelling feels natural, but sometimes it's maybe a bit too much information... but then this is just my personal opinion.

Anyway, as I already expressed: Keep up the good work, and I really hope this all pays out for you!

    2. Meanwhile I identified a few spots in which the narration does not really add to the experience. Generally I need the narration to transport certain things that would be too complicated to express in the action but I also have to watch out to not overuse it just out of habit. Thanks for the feedback! I'm always trying to enhance my work in any aspect.

    3. Whenever I read a story or watch a movie and I question the way it is being told, I always try to put myself in the position of the protagonist. If you are objective and look at what a young boy would do and think to himself in such as situation, I think you nailed it right on the head, Daniel. It's hard to find the right balance in a fast paced scene, it shouldn't feel slow but it should be rushed either...

It's great to see readers being this frank and up-front, very refreshing as the comments are also constructive.

I would just have one this to say: congrats on hitting your deadline in such splendid manner!

  18. Wow, these alien vistas are fantastic; I've waited for this since I first heard you were working on chapter 1...

The red-green contrasts in the environment are pretty cool - is it a particular type of tree?
Will we be hearing anything about the world-building you've done, planning the comic - the flora and fauna, why crystals grow in the forest, that kinda stuff?

That mimicry cape was an awesome idea, btw :)

    1. Where it fits I will definitely put details about the world into the story. But I think you always have to be careful to not put too much exposition into a narration. However, I'm already looking for other ways to explain more about the world and this will most likely happen outsite the story.

    2. Maybe you can make a sort wikipedia page where you can write articels about the world.

  24. Hallo Daniel,

  26. Hey Daniel, keep up the great work!

May i ask how many chapters you have in mind?

    1. Certainly! The Wormworld Saga is a Trilogy and every part of it will consist of about 20 chapters. So, I better get to work again! ;)

  28. Tremendous work. Got the app last week and have purchased the extra stuff-- totally top notch. LOVE the sketch version of your efforts. I would encourage all who have in interest in the process of creating art to buy the in-app features. I haven't bought a contemporary comic -- paper or digital -- in years, and now I'm anxious for part 3 to go on sale. I check every day. Twice a day!

  29. I admire your persistence and discipline to continue such tremendous work over a long period of time. However, I do have some citicism that may be helpful: Some of my friends have pointed out that the story (of which we can't say a lot at this point yet) is a little too bland if it continues to be the way it is now. It's not bad, but not very good either. In my opinion, what your story needs is something outstanding that makes it different from a generic fantasy -(graphic) novel. Maybe you already have something specific in mind, but make sure it is the real thing - right now, nothing in the story has impressed me.
This may sound a little harsh, but please take it as an advice of someone who sees a lot of potential in your work and would love to see you succeed. Good luck!

    1. Well, you seem to like the story so far enough to worry about how it's going to continue. :) But seriously, I'm open to criticism of any sort. As far as the story is concerned I'd prefer to receive it AFTER the story has actually been told but I know this is a lot to ask for as this won't be the case anytime soon. So, thanks for the input. I'm working hard on it!

  30. Hi Daniel,
